Hello My Ace and Aro Readers,

Happy Pride Everyone! In exciting news Ace LA will be marching for the first time in the LA Pride Parade. For details check out the link below. Our newsletter is a little light this time, hopefully June will inspire more people to take some time for us and well have more to offer next time. In the meantime check out the articles and we’ll see you at pride.

June is Pride Month.

June 2nd is International Sex Worker Day.

June 5th is Aromantic Visibility Day.

June 12th is Pulse Night of Remembrance.

Ace LA is going to LA Pride! On Sunday June 8th Ace LA is marching in the LA Pride Parade. We hope to see you there.

As of June 2023, Ace LA will alternate between outdoor in-person (weather permitting) and virtual meetups. We are also keeping an eye out on the air quality due to the wildfires to make sure it is safe to be outside for hours. For in-person meetups and volunteering, you will be asked to mask unless eating or drinking and will be required to sign a waiver stating you understand the risk of exposure, and that you absolve Ace Los Angeles of any liability. Masks are available on request.

Ace LA has social meetings the second Sunday of every month.
1:30pm - New Member Meeting
2pm - General Meeting
This month there is no social meeting as we will be at Pride.

Ace LA’s Business meetings are online, the first Wednesday of every month.
7:00pm - Business Meeting
The next meeting is on May 4th on Zoom.

Our Ears Are Burning!

This section is where we link you to articles and studies on asexuality and aromantisim.

Bella DePaulo writes about a recent study of teenagers priorities and how they feel about marriage.

This section is where we will feature personal essays, reflections, and stories.

The Strait Times talked to several asexuals in Singapore, their experiences: coming out, society, and finding community.

As part of the interview series ‘Queer Fashion Files’ talks with asexual writer and content creator Allie Daisy King.

Both a personal essay and exploration of asexuality in Asian cultures, with particular focus on ace’s exclusion from queer spaces.

We Want You! 

This section is for informing you of requests for participation of aces and aros by other organizations, including studies, surveys, archive efforts, media projects, interviews, and policy / community feedback. 

AZE Journal has open submissions for asexual, aromantic, and agender writers on the topic of resilience toward oppression and social pressures . Submissions can include many different kinds of written or non-written work and are open until July 15th.

A special interest of Humanities a journal “on the meaning of cultural expression and perceptions as seen through different interpretative lenses” is looking for written submissions on single, unmarried, widowed, asexual, queer, or otherwise celibate Irish authors or characters, open until November 3rd.

Teachers College at Columbia University is seeking asexual participants to discuss their experiences interacting with mental health professionals for a research study.

A student at the University of Cologne is writing a thesis on how different queer people react to discrimination and the causes behind those differences and is looking for queer participants for a survey.

A professor at National University is looking for participants for a study of romantic/sexual relationships when 1 or more of the partners is ace-spec.

Aspec podcast is looking for people interested in being featured as guests.

AUREA (Aromantic-Spectrum Union for Recognition, Education, and Advocacy) is asking for your experiences as part of a book project on aromantisim and intersectionality.

Queer Author Emily Garside is writing a book on queer television and in an effort to include as much as possible is asking for people to fill out a survey on their experiences.

Oakland University is seeking participants for a research study on minority stress.

University of Southern Queensland is doing a study on psychedelic drug use among queer people.

Researchers at University of Iowa are looking for 500 people to participate in a study on asexuality and reproductive health.

And finally:

A-specs Committed to Anti-Racism has a living document Actionable Ways to Support Palestinians in Gaza on day 601 of the genocide.
