Hello My Ace and Aro Readers,

I hope you all had a great Ace Week! I’ve got a lot of stuff for you this month, Ace Week always reminds people to talk about us. I also wanted to draw your attention to some of the relevant days this month, many focusing on trans people and gender. I think this gives us the opportunity to reflect on the ways our struggles for autonomy are connected, that we face many of the same barriers, and the significant overlap in our communities.

November is International Trans Awareness Month.

November 2nd is Trans Parent Day.

November 8th is Intersex Day of Remembrance.

November 13th-19th is Trans Awareness Week.

November 16th is International Day of Tolerance.

November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance.

As of August 2025, Ace LA will host monthly outdoor in-person (weather permitting) and virtual meetups. For in-person meetups and volunteering, you will be asked to mask unless eating or drinking and will be required to sign a waiver stating you understand the risk of exposure, and that you absolve Ace Los Angeles of any liability. Masks are available on request.

Ace LA has in-person social meetings, the second Sunday of every month.

Ace LA has digital social meetings, the first Thursday of every month.
7:00pm - General Meeting
The next meeting is on November 6th on Zoom.

Ace LA’s Business meetings are online, the first Wednesday of every month.

Our Ears Are Burning!

This section is where we link you to articles and studies on asexuality and aromantisim.

Celebrating 25 years since the famous “My life as an amoeba” AVEN hosted a live stream with David Jay and Yasmin Benoit discussing the history and progress of the asexual movement.

Thesis on the history of asexuality on British television, the author wrote a short write up about it as well.

The 2024 Ace Community Survey Report has been released.


Tell Me a Story... 

In this section we will spotlight an asexual or aromantic representation in media and entertainment news.

A fun bit of ranking of some of the ace characters in film and television the good and the awful.

UK Tv Guide gave a nice overview of long running ace character Liv Flaherty’s storylines in the soap opera Emmerdale.

A deep diving into Interview with the Vampire, the book and first 2 seasons of the television show, analyzing the themes of loneliness, love, and loss of vampire life with an asexual lens.

Cody Daigle-Orians takes a look at the show Somebody Somewhere and what aces can get from it’s focus on friendship and family.

An interview with Guillermo Diaz director Dear Luke, Love, Me a film centering a platonic love story between two ace and allo friends.

A blogger put together a list of short reviews of books and podcast with asexual characters.

Felicia Martínez talks about her upcoming book Bright Phaedra and reexamining the Greek myth with an ace-friendly perspective.

Aurea has an interview with AroAce Building a German educational project, focusing on psychotherapy and counseling.

A personal account/reflection on being ace and having sexual fantasies.

Spectrum Voices is a series of experiences of the asexual and aromantic spectrum from members of the Ukrainian community.

Debbie Urbanski writes about the painful and traumatizing experience of attempting couples therapy as a sex-repulsed asexual.

The More You Know

In this section we will provide links to articles and resources designed to educate and inform on asexuality and aromanticism.

A Deep-dive and exploration of the anti-Blackness in the ace and aro communities, this is a long read but definitely an important one.

The Ace Couple, a podcast co-hosted by the founder of Disabled Ace Day, released on episode discussing Ableist Language.

A filmed lecture on asexuality studies by Dr. Cat Clifford at Hastings College.


We Want You! 

This section is for informing you of requests for participation of aces and aros by other organizations, including studies, surveys, archive efforts, media projects, interviews, and policy / community feedback. 

The Ace Community Survey for 2025 is now open for participation.

AZE Journal has open submissions for asexual, aromantic, and agender writers for a second issue on the topic of resilience toward oppression and social pressures . Submissions can include many different kinds of written or non-written work and are open until November 15th.

A special interest of Humanities a journal “on the meaning of cultural expression and perceptions as seen through different interpretative lenses” is looking for written submissions on single, unmarried, widowed, asexual, queer, or otherwise celibate Irish authors or characters, open until November 3rd.

Teachers College at Columbia University is seeking asexual participants to discuss their experiences interacting with mental health professionals for a research study.

A professor at National University is looking for participants for a study of romantic/sexual relationships when 1 or more of the partners is ace-spec.

Aspec podcast is looking for people interested in being featured as guests.

AUREA (Aromantic-Spectrum Union for Recognition, Education, and Advocacy) is asking for your experiences as part of a book project on aromantisim and intersectionality.

Queer Author Emily Garside is writing a book on queer television and in an effort to include as much as possible is asking for people to fill out a survey on their experiences.

University of Southern Queensland is doing a study on psychedelic drug use among queer people.

Researchers at University of Iowa are looking for 500 people to participate in a study on asexuality and reproductive health.
